About the Program
Celebrating Heroes is a community outreach and military appreciation project designed for funeral service providers by seasoned funeral service professionals.
Our founder, Timothy Totten, has spent most of his professional life working in the funeral industry. From years of working in funeral homes, to launching Final Embrace, which produces the original quilted mortuary cot cover, Timothy is well-versed in the mortuary world.
Timothy knew that a community-oriented project like Celebrating Heroes was just what the funeral industry needed. While funeral homes provide an essential service to their communities, the public tends to associate them with sadness and loss. Celebrating Heroes seeks to change that.
Service members are well loved throughout America. Their bravery, sacrifice, and service are celebrated and cherished. What better way to show appreciation than lining the streets of a town with their images?
The Celebrating Heroes project offers high quality, full color banners featuring the image, name, and awards of service members, both living and deceased, to honor them publicly. The banner projects are facilitated by local funeral homes and their municipalities. This provides the funeral home with a positive, exciting touchpoint within their community.
Participating funeral homes will receive a package with press releases and marketing materials to announce that they are facilitating the exciting Celebrating Heroes project within their town. The banners will all go up and come down the same day, making it an exciting community event. All banners are sold through the Celebrating Heroes website, where the public can share their loved one’s name, rank, awards, and upload a photo. They can pay for their banner through the website, too. We’ll get to work on printing the banners and send them directly to the participating municipality, who will hang them around town. The banners are double-sided and measure 18″ wide and 35 3/4″ long. When the banners are taken down, the purchaser may pick up their banner at the participating funeral home. This gives the funeral home a unique opportunity for people to visit them for an exciting, celebratory reason.
Built into the cost of each banner is a donation to a local nonprofit that benefits veterans. The Celebrating Heroes banners are available at a price point of $200 each, with $75 going back to charity. The more banners displayed around town, the higher the charitable donation. Celebrating Heroes will send the donation check to the charity, but we encourage the funeral homes to facilitate a check presentation ceremony to celebrate the sizable donation, as this presents a wonderful media opportunity.
Celebrating Heroes in Action
In Eustis, Florida the Celebrating Heroes project decorated their downtown area. The banners were installed on the decorative street lights in the downtown Eustis area from September 1, 2019 to November 12, 2019. There were 59 banners hung throughout town, and at the end of the project, a donation of $4200.00 was made to Lake County Vet Fest. The banners were hung in conjunction with Veterans Day, and the city took them down when it was time to hang their Christmas decorations.
